If you have any other questions that aren't answered on the Volunteer Groups page or the following F.A.Q., please contact the Village’s Volunteer Group Coordinator, Tami Wright at 407-396-0770 x4507, or by e-mail.
How does a volunteer group differ from an individual volunteer?
When an individual volunteers, he/she is able to create their own schedule. When a group volunteers, the Village’s Volunteer Group Coordinator and a designated group leader work together to create the schedule for the entire group.
How many people are needed to qualify as a group?
By Village definition, a group consists of at least 8 volunteers. It could be work or school related, church or youth groups, or just friends and family.
How old can a group volunteer be? Do they need to be accompanied by an adult?
Volunteers can be as young as 12, but they must be supervised at all times by an adult volunteer who is at least 18. The Village ratio is one adult for every four volunteers under the age of 16.
Is lodging available for volunteer groups?
Unfortunately, we cannot provide any lodging for any of our volunteers. For your convenience, here is a link to the Kissimmee Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Is transportation available for volunteer groups?
Unfortunately, Give Kids The World is unable to provide transportation for volunteer groups. Many groups transport their volunteers to the Village by using personal vehicles, or rental vans, or bus.
Are meals provided for the volunteer groups?
Inside the Hula Hut, our volunteer lounge, we provide a daily continental breakfast, as well as a complimentary hot dinner. Soft drinks, coffee, and tea are available all day.
Volunteers are also welcome to bring their own food and store it in the refrigerator located in the Hula Hut. For lunch, a volunteer group may purchase a meal at Katie’s Kitchen. Lunch orders for the group must be purchased in advance by calling 407-396-0770 x4800. Katie’s Kitchen serves lunch between the hours of 11am and 4pm.
The Hula Hut dinner will be served between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:30pm and is free of charge.
How far in advance do I need to prepare my group?
You can reserve a spot for your group up to a year in advance by submitting your group application. Since some of our volunteer opportunities are age-restricted, please have an accurate head count of volunteers, as well as the ages of any volunteers under the age of 18. Be aware that the sooner you submit your application, the more exciting opportunities that will be available for you!
What time of the day can my group volunteer?
Since our families spend their afternoons visiting our Central Florida attractions, you will receive the most family interaction in the morning (approx. 7:30am-12pm) and in the evening (approx. 5pm-10:30pm).
Where will the volunteering take place?
All volunteering will occur at Give Kids The World Village, which is located at 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746.
What opportunities are available for volunteer groups?
Groups can volunteer in a variety of areas at the Village. Please follow this link to a complete listing of our opportunities.
There are age requirements for all of our volunteer opportunities.
What is required of a group leader?
The group leader serves as the primary contact for the entire group, must be at least 18 years of age and must be volunteering with their group.
He/she is responsible for contacting the Village’s Volunteer Group Coordinator to begin the application process and will help with creating their group’s schedule. The leader ensures that everyone in their group has filled out their individual applications, background checks, and parental agreements before arriving. The group leader is responsible for communicating the Give Kids The World Volunteer Guidelines to all of their group members before their arrival.
If the group cannot provide enough volunteers to meet their determined schedule, the leader is responsible for contacting the Village’s Volunteer Group Coordinator as soon as possible so adjustments can be made.
I am ready to schedule my group to volunteer! What information do I need to have available to begin the process?
Please be prepared with the following information:
- Group Name
- Primary City & State of Group
- Group Leader’s Name & Contact Information
- Potential Group Size or Range
- Approximate number of volunteers who are a) 12 & 13 years old, b) 14 & 15 years old, c) 16-18 years old, d) Over 18 years old
- At least two possible dates your group would like to volunteer
- Preferred time of day to volunteer (AM or PM)
My group has volunteered at Give Kids The World before. May we volunteer again?
Of course! We would love to have you volunteer again! Please have your group leader contact the Village’s Volunteer Group Coordinator to reserve another spot for your group. Be prepared to provide a headcount of volunteers, ages of those under the age of 18, and any other information that may have changed since your last visit.
My group is local to the Central Florida area. May we volunteer on a regular basis? How often would we need to volunteer?
Absolutely! You can come volunteer as often as your group is available. Some groups come once a week, some once a month, and some call and request dates when we need assistance. It is up to discretion of your group and its leader.
How do I request a group application?
You can call the Volunteer Services office at 407-396-0770, or you can reach us by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or TamiW@gktw.org.
